No, but my impression is that of the 10,500 available, there are "always" LOADS left at the end of the year....loads as in thousands :)

Not a super suggestion, but I understand that you will have to return your Indian passport to the Indian govt if you obtain an Australian one...this has been covered elsewhere in this thread.

My partner got an H1B on an "at will" contract based in LA.....I know, different visa, but it reflects that many companies only hire people on an "at will" basis.

I would reckon that you are ok.

I appreciate that this refers to a US Legal doc, however, semantically speaking "May" or "May not" refers to "permission" not "ability". "Can" relates to ability"
