Re: Winter 2017-18

Quite. "I could have gone to Australia" is a thought I can't shake.

Re: Winter 2017-18

Heavy snow here, people stuck on the highway unable to get to work. The usual for early April.

Re: Winter 2017-18

I did that, again, this week. I should have hook points, like a racing car.

Re: Winter 2017-18

I'm disappointed that they don't get the equipment from America, have it measure in inches, and then convert the results to centimetres.

Re: Winter 2017-18

I believe the wind got under the edges, despite the breeze blocks on the horizontal flaps. It took off like an unchained barbecue.

Re: Winter 2017-18

In our case the frame stayed, it was just the material that shot off into another field. It came from TSC, maybe that was the problem.

Re: Winter 2017-18

When we were first here we had a driveway full of snow and inadequate means to displace it (maybe a quarter mile, three feet deep). A passer-by slowed his car, saw the situation and, a while later...

Re: Winter 2017-18

Nice and warm today, -7 on the car hotness thingy. Lots of snow though and, unusually, the street hadn't been ploughed. The drive was quite challenging.

Re: Winter 2017-18

Now they say Sunday but I haven't forgotten all that "mainly cloudy" that had to be cleared last week. I don't trust them at all. I hope it doesn't fall tomorrow. Apart from the pain and suffering...

Re: Winter 2017-18

Look. If I'm going to work and I spend 25 minutes sculpting my comb over, I am not going to flatten that work with some bobble hat just because I have some shoveling to do. It's better to look good...

Re: Winter 2017-18

Heavy snow in the forecast. Sunday, Monday, next Wednesday fortnight, Accuweather knows as well as we do. The chickens are on strike which is just as well as their eggs freeze before they can be...

Re: Winter 2017-18

It is extremely cold here (see previous post) with lots of snow. The car is stuck in the snow. The tractor battery is dead and the truck heater has packed up. Tractor and car have to be sorted before...

Re: Winter 2017-18

We can't be having such extravagance, powering a garage door costs almost as much as board for a horse for a month.

The weather here is not very good, btw, we had more than a foot of "scattered...

Re: Winter 2017-18

Oh my, I sob for your first world problems. Our garage door isn't powered anyway and, indeed, when the garage remodeling man comes, it'll have two unpowered doors.

That does look a cost effective...

Re: Winter 2017-18

The wiring is just replacement of the main panel with one that has an option to switch from the incoming power supply to supply by generator. The location relative to the house isn't a factor in the...

Re: Winter 2017-18

The switch panel is in the garage, 100 yds from the house. I roll the generator out of the door or, if it's a blizzard, roll it to the door. It's not audible in the house.

Re: Winter 2017-18

We yes, that was $2,700. It's not a DIY job. The primary need for a generator is for the well pump. I suppose one could power everything with extension cords but they'd have to be very long, the...

Re: Winter 2017-18

$3,500 dollars at a minimum. $6,500 if it's automatic.

Re: Winter 2017-18

This morning the car thermometer showed -30. Someone I know well has gone out to move her horse between barns. This will entail much standing around. I have not gone to watch.

Re: Winter 2017-18

We once considered a multi-day ride across some of the more scenic parts of Ontario. The pitch included the advice that "all accommodations include hot tubs, some have massage facilities". That seems...

Re: Winter 2017-18

Thank you but we started from low base points so it's not like George Morris taking an unpromising horse, discard by others, to the Olympics. It's not a competitive thing at all, just about achieving...

Re: Winter 2017-18

I expect there's even a kit from the manufacturer, I just haven't got to it. One more slide into the ditch or one more mown down plant might inspire action.

Re: Winter 2017-18

Oddly, we’ve never had a compressor, we nailed all of the siding by hand. It’s not something I miss, unlike a cab and huge rear facing lights for the tractor.

The pleasure in riding for me is in...

Re: Winter 2017-18

There was a lot of snow overnight and we planned to go riding this morning. I duly set out to blow early and was dismayed to find a flat tyre on the tractor. Note that I can now start the tractor...
