Re: Potentially moving to Halifax, NS

The car insurance companies don't set the premiums. They suggest premiums they'd like to charge for government approval and it's the government that has the final say; last year the Ontario...

Re: Potentially moving to Halifax, NS

The vehicle is not a major factor in insurance pricing in Canada. It does matter in extreme cases, RHD vehicles, modified cars, JDM imports, are expensive to insure but a car, say a $20,000 Ford...

Re: Potentially moving to Halifax, NS

You could walk to the supermarket and get a taxi back, you could make multiple trips to the supermarket; you can afford not to do that so you don't (I wouldn't either) but in Canada you typically...

Re: Potentially moving to Halifax, NS

You haven't considered that in the UK it's usual to walk to the supermarket and, if you don't want to do that, there are services set up to accommodate your need for milk; buses, trains, delivery,...

Re: Potentially moving to Halifax, NS

Ah. I may be in the right place. The UK has a milk price war in progress so it's easy to find out the price of milk at, say, Tesco's in Shepherd's Bush, but suppose I move here:

4 bedroom detached...

Re: Potentially moving to Halifax, NS

I'm sorry that my daughter, who once lived in NS, now lives in Vancouver because Halifax is a fun place to visit.

Thin skinned immigrants in NS though, you've only to mock the lingering...

Re: Potentially moving to Halifax, NS

To protect the jobs of the pampered staff of the liquor control boards. It's daft, but is it life changing?

Re: Potentially moving to Halifax, NS

I am familiar with the process of purchasing alcohol, in NS, in ON, in the UK, in a great number of other places. I don't understand though why izzi81, who doesn't drink and isn't originally Canadian...

Re: Potentially moving to Halifax, NS

Why would someone who doesn't drink go through two check outs? Is it because lack of alcohol has so adled their brains that they queue up not to buy booze?

Re: Potentially moving to Halifax, NS

Re: Potentially moving to Halifax, NS

Be careful with this. If the house is mortgaged and falls in value and the exchange rate moves against you, you could be stuck with a difficult bill to pay. There are lots of past threads on renting...

Re: Potentially moving to Halifax, NS

The liquor control boards are a crazy system. The unpleasant people work there will grudgingly shove a bottle of booze at you if it's not one of their many tea breaks, and they'll charge you an arm...
