You should definitely split it between institutions. The UK recently increased the guaranteed per institution from £35k to £50k so don't put anymore than £50k in any one bank, building society or...

I don't really think they are even bothered about the Pound v Euro at the moment, keeping their head above water is enough.

What would be the point of a forward contract if you have to pay it all up front? Instead they earn their money, by giving you a lower exchange rate than they would offer someone doing a spot...

Thanks for explaining. Not sure whether to bother for the amount we've got to transfer it sounds like a lot of hassle for a possible better rate. We've already opened Bank Accounts with TD in Canada...

Sounds good. I don't have any more money to transfer at the moment, so I'm going to try to stop looking at the exchange rate - I get obsessed, and if it goes up further I'll just kick myself.
