Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

To be honest I'm not currently watching things quite as closely as I used to, but will definitely report back if I see anything. I mostly keep up by following a few specialist travel bloggers on...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

I'm sitting on just shy of 160k so interested in developments too. Could convert to Hilton at 2:3 but don't feel ready to pull that trigger yet.

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

I have, twice. Needed to get from Singapore to Budapest last June. Not much choice regarding award availability, but found SIN-LHR-BUD on BA and BUD-HEL-SIN on Finnair. By booking via AA I used far...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

No, I meant US (but also applies elsewhere) thanks to BA’s distance-based reward structure. Good explanation here:

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Nope. All programs have their sweet (and shitty) spots. BA’s sweet spots are mainly short flights (e.g. direct domestic US flights where the number of miles required can be much less than AA) or...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Not completely true. If you use AA miles on BA routes you’ll also get fleeced.

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

I value UR points at about 1.5c each. Both options seem expensive to me, but I'm sure you are following prices so have a much better feel for it.

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

You can credit Condor flights to Alaska Mileage Plan or Lufthansa Miles & More. I've found both programmes useful over time for long-haul premium award redemptions, albeit using miles earned from...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

These are very expensive methods, and I've only ever made payments that cost this much (circa 2%) once - where I had to spend a much higher than normal amount of money.

For everything else, and at...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Unfortunately aa.com is a crappy place to search for many partner awards as it doesn't show all of them. Funnily enough, and buggy as it can be, ba.com is a better award search engine under most...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

There would be no more earning VS tier points. Don't think of miles as 'transferring', as the transaction never touches Flying Club in the first place in this scenario. Think of Virgin Atlantic (the...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Been looking into this a bit more. For now let's ignore ANA award availability (you want 5 seats, which is a lot) and focus on pricing a little.

It looks like VS doesn't publish partner award...
