Re: Broadchurch and Other UK TV Programs

I know! I have to provide receipts for reimbursement of work expenses, and this sometimes necessitates providing copies of my credit card statements. I have had a chat with the office worker who...

Re: Broadchurch and Other UK TV Programs

Anyone here use LoveFilm (Amazon's DVD postal service)?

Ever since Amazon took it over they have messed it up completely for the customer.

I just noticed they changed my service from "3 DVDs at...

Re: Broadchurch and Other UK TV Programs

I enjoyed the last episode, it at least had some optimism to it. I didn't know it was the last in series but had a suspicion it was.

Otherwise ...

Next weeks' episode either would have been a...

Re: Broadchurch and Other UK TV Programs

Re: Broadchurch and Other UK TV Programs

I missed the first few series (I didn't start watching them until after I came back in 2006) so I guess I could get the box set (Series 1-7 can be had for £45) and go back to the beginning. That's a...

Re: Broadchurch and Other UK TV Programs

I didn't realise this was the last series until I read that in the Sunday Times this week. I had thought the previous series was going to be the last but then I saw the "new" one and assumed we had...

Re: Broadchurch and Other UK TV Programs

I like Spiral too. I like that the detectives are scruffy and look like real people.

Some UK police/detective dramas are turning into US police dramas, where everyone looks like a catwalk model...

Re: Broadchurch and Other UK TV Programs

I binge-watched the three episodes of Mapp and Lucia last night and really enjoyed it. I almost didn't record it at all because I thought it would be too silly/fluffy, but it was very entertaining...

Re: Broadchurch and Other UK TV Programs

BBC News site has a brief run-down of several TV programs for 2015. many are cable-only, but there are quite a few on terrestrial, also.

Re: Broadchurch and Other UK TV Programs

Interesting article on Foyle's war in the Radio Times. Seems it has been running for 12 years.

Re: Broadchurch and Other UK TV Programs

Ah, OK, it was definitely the movie that I saw. I misunderstood what you had said - thought they were two versions of the same story.

I just watched two clips from the TV series...

Re: Broadchurch and Other UK TV Programs

I saw this, but I'm not sure if it was the movie or the TV series (think it was the movie). the trailer looks familiar but there were some scenes I didn't recognise so am not sure.

Anyway, for...

Well, hello there! Must be Christmas ... haven't seen you in a long while.

Yes, "gritty", I see that term used a lot in TV reviews as a compliment.

I hope your friend has more luck as there...

Re: Broadchurch and Other UK TV Programs

I do find a lot of British TV to be like this these days. Not enough light-hearted entertainment, IMO.

I enjoy crime dramas but the depraved, cruel, and downright miserable is too often the...

Re: Broadchurch and Other UK TV Programs

IMO, suspension of disbelief in a fictional story is fine, up to a point but even in sci-fi there comes a point where excessive illogicality starts to grind. Then it stops being entertaining because...

Re: Broadchurch and Other UK TV Programs

Ah, maybe there was a difference in the Sarah Lund/Sarah Linden plot and I just forgot.

I watched the US version but thought it was pretty forgettable compared to the original.

It makes sense...

Re: Broadchurch and Other UK TV Programs

I didn't think Sarah Lund had a psychiatric problem. Eccentric, maybe. Nice jumpers.

Carrie whatsit had bipolar disorder. Clare Danes' portrayal was irritating though, as Jerseygirl...
