Re: Working Part-time in the UK and USA

Sorry, just noticed you mentioned self-employed rather than set up a limited company. Someone elsewhere mentioned that is the easier way to go as well as it does not fall foul of ir35. Less tax...

Re: Working Part-time in the UK and USA

Thanks Pulaski, just seen your edited bit. You are right, I will see if I can do the split and invoice from over here. I am guessing there are major benefits in doing it like that.

Again, I will...

Re: Working Part-time in the UK and USA

Thanks. Absolutely fine with that. How do they work out how much I am working in the UK?

Also, I guess that through the UK/us tax treaty that the tax I pay in the UK will be taken off my US tax...

Re: Working Part-time in the UK and USA

Ok, looks like I will be paid full-time in the US, but will actually only be there for 20 weeks of the year and the rest in the UK.

My wife will reside in the UK for the majority of the time and...

Re: Working Part-time in the UK and USA

Not following you cook_county. The U.S. Employer is a big university.

The employer in the UK will be a company I set up. I will likely contribute to pensions via both. The UK company would invoice...

Re: Working Part-time in the UK and USA

I am reckoning on being there roughly two weeks every month.

Re: Working Part-time in the UK and USA

Hi Pulaski

That is very helpful.

I wonder if there MAY be the possibility that I could be paid on the payroll for my work in the US (ie. 40% of the salary) and then the other 60% (my work in...

Re: Working Part-time in the UK and USA

Hi Pulaski

It is a new job for me and new employer. They are a private University.

I would be developing a new service for them - it could be argued that I have specialist technical knowledge....

Hi Cook_County

They haven't offered me a Visa yet. I have to decide whether I want to do the role on a part-time country basis.

To decide that, I have to know if it is workable. Hence posting...

Re: Working Part-time in the UK and USA

Hi Cook_County

Sorry for my ignorance. I am starting this from scratch.

What type of visa would I need to fulfil the above?

Cheers

Hi everyone

My first post here.

I have been offered a position at a Uni in the US. Unfortunately my wife and I have elderly parents and moving full-time to the US is therefore unlikely to...
