Yes that's exactly right, so everytime you want to travel while the partner visa is being processed you'll need to buy the type B bridging visa or make sure that the previous one doesn't expire...

+1 for doing it yourself.

I had only been dating my wife for a few months, had a 'quickie'* marriage just before her WHV 417 expired and applied for the 820 the next day to get a bridging visa...
