Re: The Comfort Zone. Favourite food, drinks, where to buy, and recipes.

We are here in the Uk and my brother told me it was Italian week , but they had little of it.... I wonder if this is a case of supply issues throughout. We are finding lots of our normal food stuff...

Re: The Comfort Zone. Favourite food, drinks, where to buy, and recipes.

Ha! When there we had to resort to the British Corner Shop for our daily fix. Currently a 500gr jar is a whopping £7.39 (3 or more £7.17) plus delivery charges. At the time they had an offer of free...

Re: The Comfort Zone. Favourite food, drinks, where to buy, and recipes.

Must be a taste bud thing Lorna, your must be too good, what with sprouts AND marmite! Mind you I didn't start liking marmite until I was in my 30s...

Re: The Comfort Zone. Favourite food, drinks, where to buy, and recipes.

The only thing we really struggled to do without was marmite, hence we know about the British Corner Shop, just had a look and "Heinz Baked Beans 4 Pack" is £3.99 (£3.87 3+). No doubt delivery is...

Re: The Comfort Zone. Favourite food, drinks, where to buy, and recipes.

I would make your own, cannelloni or haricot beans. Heat a little olive oil add herbs, spice of choice add a bit passata stirring all the time util you have the amount you prefer for your beans, then...

Re: The Comfort Zone. Favourite food, drinks, where to buy, and recipes.

The sage plant will take no time at all to grow, your problem will be keeping it under control! We brought back a rooting for our daughter here in the UK and when we came back took a cutting from...

Re: The Comfort Zone. Favourite food, drinks, where to buy, and recipes.

Coriander prefers the cold, I would look at planting late in the year. The best we ever had was planted late summer/autumn and after coming back from England in January to 10cm of snow over it we had...

Re: The Comfort Zone. Favourite food, drinks, where to buy, and recipes.

I would certainly grow them if we were still there, friends have tried parsnips with mixed success. We also grew carrots which were great one year and a total failure the next. Experimentation is...

Re: The Comfort Zone. Favourite food, drinks, where to buy, and recipes.

I think Brian is right, it's down to taste in answer to the OPs question on recipes. There are the obvious Lorna mentioned, but there will be others on the web. In Italy I've seen sausage, I assume...

Re: The Comfort Zone. Favourite food, drinks, where to buy, and recipes.

It takes a while to change eating habits and a lot of effort trying different things - "piano, piano" Oh, and don't let them see what you put in it! If they could see what went into Heinz they may...

Re: The Comfort Zone. Favourite food, drinks, where to buy, and recipes.

I would keep trying the cannellini, but different ingredients, perhaps a few herbs such as basil (best fresh) or what's in season, oregano should be around now and sage. If you like chilli I can...

Check if your area has one here on their site (https://cliccaevai.esselunga.it/ecommerce/nav/drive/index.html). Looks like they even do on-line shopping!

Re: The Comfort Zone. Favourite food, drinks, where to buy, and recipes.

They grow carrots here, so no reason you can't grow parsnips. Problem we've found is with carrots (same requirement as parsnip) our soil is far too heavy, although we did find a short fat variety of...

Re: The Comfort Zone. Favourite food, drinks, where to buy, and recipes.

I'm not too sure there are any varieties of datterino. I have to admit I give up on growing from seed mainly because the plants here were so cheap. Last year they were selling both yellow and black...

Re: The Comfort Zone. Favourite food, drinks, where to buy, and recipes.

Everyone here seems to grow Pera, they often call them abruzzesi pomodoro, but I don’t think they are much different from any of the other big toms. Those Costoluto di Firenze (if the same as ...

Re: The Comfort Zone. Favourite food, drinks, where to buy, and recipes.

Perhaps we need a growing thread ... Interesting growing on black plastic as a lot of major growers here do the same for various crops. Never heard of Roma VF, but looking them up they look the equiv...

Re: The Comfort Zone. Favourite food, drinks, where to buy, and recipes.

Friends of ours have a patch of this outside of their house, if we did not grow our own cultivated asparagus I would have thought it was a fern of some kind as it had "flowered". Doubt if we would...

Thank you Pica, I guess we will give it a go in bits and eat it a few different ways. As you say it's big enough!

Re: The Comfort Zone. Favourite food, drinks, where to buy, and recipes.

Just looked them up! Have heard of them, but not come across them. A few results indicate they are the same thing, but one actually says the Italians would not distinguish the two, but it's a...
