My examiner said it was optional, but you should be looking to go.

My attitude is if the taxi behind me is on the horn demanding I turn, I will find time to fiddle with the radio.

One thing I forgot to mention about the test, make sure you make a physical stop at stop signs, you will be the only person doing this! Once you pass your test the 'California Roll' becomes the norm...

As Mr P has said, you will need to 'attempt' to get your licence as soon as possible, depending on your local DMV as to how long you wait to take your test, I had to wait 2 months for the next...
