Re: Firewood/Heating costs

Fidobsa, do these radiators have thermostats?
There often is a problem with the little pins that regulate the water flow - when they're pushed back once they don't open again ...
There are several...

Re: Firewood/Heating costs

Aquavit, I think you're right - and also that there already was a thread on this problem, but I'm not sure.

Re: Firewood/Heating costs

Again, I'm not an expert there but as I see it the damp creeps up from the floor and maybe through the walls - if you put a sensor there that measures the humidity (often in combination with a...

Re: Firewood/Heating costs

Thanks, Sachina!

After working for fifteen years the heating system now has to be cleaned - says our expert.
Next week he'll rinse (is that the correct word? ) all the radiators with some...

Re: Firewood/Heating costs

@Sachina - a bit OT:

We also installed a Baxi boiler (Italian brand?) - are you happy with it?
We had some problems, but it might be because of the water which contains an extreme amount of lime...

Re: Firewood/Heating costs

Hobgoblins, just don't be lazy like one of our neighbours who put the new wood in front of the older stuff ...
You need enough room!
PS:
We have a saying in German that wood makes you warm three...

Re: Firewood/Heating costs

Good news from here!
Just got the new gas bill, seems we didn't use as much last year (not too many guests aka family in winter) so we pay now 14 000 HUF every month. Of course in November when the...

Re: Firewood/Heating costs

Totally agree with Aquavit and jetsam!
Two years is the minimum.

OT:
We built an open shed with a roof especially for this and of course to hold some garden tools - and now it's also the home...

Re: Firewood/Heating costs

The same/similar here in the old part of the house which we use now for guests, also good in summer - it stays cool ...
The only problem we have when guests come in winter:
it takes almost a whole...

Re: Firewood/Heating costs

Good for you (and the environment)!
When I had our house rebuilt almost 20 years ago those weren't even dreamt of in Hungary ...

A bit OT:
What I often wonder about when visiting our neighbours:...

Re: Firewood/Heating costs

Aquavit, those particles are called "Feinstaub" in German - fine dust, they are also produced by Diesel engines and really dangerous for our lungs.
That's why in larger German cities fireplaces are...

Re: Firewood/Heating costs

Peter, you're right but not only wood adds to the pollution - some people here in the village burn everything!

A friend of my wife proudly showed us her modified kandalo which uses wood pellets...

Re: Firewood/Heating costs

It's around 20 000 HUF a month (year round ...), including hot water - but our guest rooms aren't heated all the time, only our three main rooms (around 60 square m).
How's the insulation of your...

Re: Firewood/Heating costs

Maybe it's the moisture, wood is better after drying three years. We only use it in our "kandalo", nice to look at in the evening - 6 or 8 pieces.
Luckily we have gas central heating.

Re: Firewood/Heating costs

Jetsam is right, I asked our neighbour and he also said around 16 000 HUF per cubic meter cut/split - brought to your house.
But five meters per month looks a bit high to me.
