I took out a VW Golf through that exact scheme on a 3 year lease. (i had a 3 year L1 visa) - I definitely recommend the scheme, although the car wasn't what i wanted when i got here - it's a good...

Claire - $15k is a good amount - you won't have problems getting a decent car for that and you can choose to be somewhat picky over what you buy. I certainly wouldn't pick a car i didn't...

Yerp.

I know i pay over the odds for my lease, but it was a no-brainer when i didn't know the future of my stay in the US on my L1. my permanent residence is probably 2 or so months away from...

non-immigrant temporary visa was the key word there. Why finance a car over 5 years when you're on a 3 year visa with no definite decision on whether or not you'll be staying in the US.

Agree, but good for us folk on non-immigrant temp visa's initially :)

I'll be swapping to buying a motor once i get my permanent residence.

They probably wouldn't chase for payment. But your credit's going to have gone down the pan in the event that you do return to the US.

L1B is only valid for 3 years initially so I expect they'll look at that. That's what happened when i took out a lease after moving here, they also wanted my employer to tell them how long i was here...
