Yes, exactly. Although my daughter's state run scuola materna was pretty 'soft' although underfunded and a very high student-teacher ratio. But she just started scuola elementare (see my comments...

I agree. The "Reggio Emilia" method is also incredibly popular in the US and no one here has ever heard of it here. I suspect that the reason that Montessori and Reggio Emilia were (purportedly)...

Or the kid at my daughter's public school in Rome who had the teacher slap him across the face in front of the class just a couple of years ago.

(luckily, not my daughter's teacher!)

Actually the lunches at our daughters' public school is one of the few high points. They're cooked on site and organic.

Maybe we should switch our daughters to a church school. It will be a financial stretch but do-able if we cut out a few things.

Only thing is both DH and I are atheists. We're not...

Fair lady - the system is very different here but I guess you know that already. What brings you to Italy in particular? I assume that you and your partner have jobs lined up?

DH ended up speaking to both teachers when he picked daughter up from school yesterday. He just asked how she was going and they said "fine!" ...

Thanks 37100. My husband picks the kids up from school every day but he says he never sees Italian teacher only maths teacher. I do drop offs but usually don't go all the way up to the third floor...

I posted here a long time ago with a different username back when my older daughter was just starting asilo. Anyway, now she's just started prima elementare and younger daughter is in scuola...
