I doubt he has anything enforceable as far as DIAC are concerned (sponsorship is a moral obligation and Assurance of Support is unusual for a spouse visa out of the UK) but she ought to be consulting...

The point at issue is that if she had a "long term relationship" they should have given a permanent visa, not a temporary one. At the time she applied (presumably before end-March 2010) the criteria...

You and she ought to treat this as an urgent problem, not something to be checked at leisure. And do more than check dates - read the visa label to see if it is a permanent or temporary visa.

Something doesn't make sense here - in this situation, a permanent visa should have been given at the beginning (more than 2 years together, with a child, at time of application).
