As I understand it, unless your husband also has some EU ancestry that would qualify him for citizenship of an EU country, the savings route is pretty much your only option.

Unless things were different than in 2000 when my British hubby applied for a green card,you had to sponsor your wife. she couldn't just 'show up' and live with you in the US.

It's more paperwork...

Third-party sponsorship for a spouse visa is no longer allowed. That ended with the rule changes that came into effect in 2012.
