Re: Voluntary National Insurance contributions

Here it is. Mostly Americans and Canadians but lots of great advice available including an early retirement tool called Firecalc which is worth taking out for a whirl. I’ve been a member since 2005...

Re: Voluntary National Insurance contributions

I think there is plenty of stuff in the general media on healthcare costs for retirees. For example there was a lot of coverage last year when Fidelity estimated that it will cost retirees an...

Re: Voluntary National Insurance contributions

When I retired in 2010 I continued to have insurance through my old company at employee group rates. After 3 years the policy changed and retirees had to pay the full, unsubsidized, group rates and...

Re: Voluntary National Insurance contributions

I agree.

I have 23 years of payments into the US system and my estimated pension will be 3 times what my estimated UK pension will be after 30 years of payments.

However, I was always a high...

Re: Voluntary National Insurance contributions

When you call and talk to HMRC you will have to ask about payment in this case. It wasn't a question I needed to ask.

I don't think so. We made the inquiries on line about paying for contributions in arrears and also going forward, and received a letter with a phone number.

After the phone call we then received...

Re: Voluntary National Insurance contributions

You can pay online.

We did this the other week for my wife. You will receive a letter with the amount to pay and it will contain a long reference number to be used when paying. It will also...

Re: Voluntary National Insurance contributions

Current year plus 6 previous years I think. When I paid my back years I thought they had allowed 7 years but I applied about this time of year (before April) so was able to effectively pay 7 years...

Re: Voluntary National Insurance contributions

I registered on this HMRC site some while back and noticed the other day that it now has links, among others, to show my actual NI contribution record plus a pension forecast. Pretty nice to have...

Re: Voluntary National Insurance contributions

Good question. I have 27 years contributions and in 6 years I will be eligible to get my OAP (age 67). Is it possible to pay the missing 2 years given that I already did the 6 year catch-up? Could...

Re: Voluntary National Insurance contributions

I believe the pension is now a straight line calculation so 10 years contributions will get you 10/35 ths of the full pension which is a little over a 1/4. (28.6%), which is £2,229/year.
