I roll the generator out of the garage to the side of the house. Put it under the plywood awning, start it up, plug it in and that's that, apart from going inside and switching plugs over. Takes 5...

A good idea. Wikipaedia tells me that a resonably fit human should be able to generate about 75W continuously over an 8 hour shift.

Now 75 Watts will light a few bulbs, but can it do anything...

Generator was 200 off craigslist, 3.7kW. Two fixed 20A extensions are installed. One ending at the furnace in a double socket that the furnace plug can be moved into, the second to a double socket...

It's clear that your supply is a little more reliable than some others. We haven't been here as long as you have but every year we have had several periods without power and these tend to last from...

BC Hydro Power back this morning. 1.5 days on generator. 206000 customers affected, only 11000 still out, one of them is daughter and family whose generator might be needed for a further day or two,...

Freezing rain / suspected ice storm in the Fraser Valley. Either way it's decimated Hydro supplies in the Langley/Abbotsford/Mission area. Have been on generator now for 5 hours and I suspect it...

I'll guess the answer.

Salt works because when in solution it depresses the freezing point allowing the solution to remain liquid at a temperature lower than the pure solvent's freezing point.
