Re: Stupidity killed 2 people

Also note page 18 & the reference to nose up attitude close to stall speed................... if you've ever flown a light aircraft, you'll know those words mean there was nothing more that could be...

Re: Stupidity killed 2 people

I think you need to re-read the report.

Firstly, the bit that says

"IMPORTANT NOTE:
The only aim of this report is to collect lessons which may help to prevent future accidents. Its use for...

Re: Stupidity killed 2 people

Equally, that aircraft under those circumstances would or at least should have been flying over land & not water & if those laws of physics dictated he couldn't reach the water then he'd have had no...

Re: Stupidity killed 2 people

As I read it, the engine failed & the laws of physics/gravity took over which is what I said right at the start & continued to say on a number of occasions.

Whilst I'd call it unfortunate &...

Re: Stupidity killed 2 people

I'd be interested to see the report (especially) to know how high he was & how fast he was going when the engine failed but as I believe I said before, once that happens the rules of physics & flight...

Re: Stupidity killed 2 people

Who is presumably & very wisely waiting for the Air Accident Investigators to publish their full report?

No surprises there then. ;)

Re: Stupidity killed 2 people

Surely the key phrase there is "unless directed by ATC"?

I'd imagine they were following a standard instruction & flight path & surely if that were not the case the media would have been all over...

Re: Stupidity killed 2 people

Exactly my point. He has little control or options after the engine quit & can only take advantage of what the rules of physics decree & I'd guess he didn't make anything like 1000 ft agl..... so...

Re: Stupidity killed 2 people

Precious little usable thermals at that height in that aircraft etc & no need of an APU for that aircraft..... The physics are (as always) the ruling factor

Re: Stupidity killed 2 people

We'll have to disagee on that I'm afraid.

Any powered aircraft loses a large part of it's flying ability as soon as it's engine(s) fail & (assuming the reports are basically correct) the engine...

OK. I was reading the post number below the post as referring to that post & I should have been reading the number above it....... Sorry for the confusion.

However, that post says:

Re: Stupidity killed 2 people

I don't think I made post #22 but please post the quote where I speculated?

All I'm trying to do is explain there are endless possible scenarios of what could have happened & that speculation is...

I might (possibly) believe the date the media claim it to be but I don't often believe much else because their aim is to make money not to tell...

Re: Stupidity killed 2 people

And of course, as we all know the media always report the truth, the whole truth & nothing but the truth hey?

That of course doesn't even address the possibility of something being lost in...

Re: Stupidity killed 2 people

No. I'm not trying to outguess anyone.

My point is that there are endless possible scenarios that could have happened & it's never a good thing to speculate or hurl accusations until one knows...

Re: Stupidity killed 2 people

Trust me when I say he might have had some control but he won't have had anything like full control & the weight of that engine plus two adult men plus low altitude & a hot day would have meant that...

I don't see anything has changed since I made the comment copied below & if Mr Carpenter does have the experience he claims he should know better than to try to second guess an air accident...

Re: Stupidity killed 2 people

I'll add that as it was an engine failure the people on the beach wouldn't have heard the aircraft coming in & the flight crew (for want of a better term) would have no way of alerting them.

As I...

Re: Stupidity killed 2 people

I quit flying about 8 years ago but do have some experience with both fixed (single & twin engines) & rotary wing (single engine helicopter & gyrocopter) aircraft & the reports suggest it was more a...
