In reality, the majority of people can not afford houses in cities that are booming & trendy, unless they have high paid jobs. If you really want a house with your skills, you will just have to move...

I doubt it's just top income earners. Maybe people just have huge mortgages and what about the people renting? If taxes are so high, landlords will just add it on to the rent.

I don't know if it came up already, but how do people even manage to pay property tax? I was shocked to see that property taxes are basically like a 2nd mortgage in Vancouver.

The problem with many cities is that rents are increasing, but that certainly sounds insane and something has to be done. Even where we are rents have increased, however at least you have the option...
