Re: Home and garden projects

That'll teach me not to brag. The Fridge Freezer crapped out again, so I am now in the market for a replacement.
Before I research, any "must haves" I should know about. Alexa type of things?

Re: Home and garden projects

Amazon. Now is probably not the time to brag that I again fixed my fridge/freezer with a $10 part and 10 mins labor. Defrost timer packed up.

Re: Home and garden projects

Toilet repair. The bit from the handle to the flapper broke. Innovative use of some handy zip ties fixed it for no cost in half an hour.

Re: Home and garden projects

A few years ago I installed a 50ft gutter along one side, pitched, with one downspout at the front. The reason being no drainage that side, so as much water as poss is now directed to an area that...

Re: Home and garden projects

I agree with this. My house was a HUD sale and LBP was a sticking point for the sale. The remediation was a good coating of paint over the lbp areas. Scraping it off is not an option.

Re: Home and garden projects

My lines are closer to 50ft than 15ft, but when it comes to complete replacement, a redesign might be in order. The blower is nowhere near central in the building, and the outside unit is on the...

Re: Home and garden projects

Wait. That does not sound too bad. What did you get for that $$? Whole new system/new outside unit/ something in between? R22 or the new legal gas (R410a?)!

Re: Home and garden projects

I agree, except the cost of whole replacement would equate to about 30% of the property value, and a lot more than I can afford!

Re: Home and garden projects

The leek was supposedly from the valves. The sniffer test he did was fairly certain no coil leaks.

Re: Home and garden projects

Not a project as such, but had the a/c off for about 6 weeks Nov/dec. Then it got warm again. Compressor wouldn't start. Called a man. $1000 = no refrigerant pressure/leak trace/ replace...

Re: Home and garden projects

Thanks, this would be an approach I would be interested in, but I got a man round today, and am embarrassed to say, the problem was a simple as a dodgy breaker on the main house board. I failed to...

Re: Home and garden projects

Air conditioning is forked. The outside unit (condenser) anyway. I've spent the day dismantling it and testing various components, and sadly the compressor seems to be dead.

So I have to get a man...

Re: Home and garden projects

The drilling/pumping option is to form a chemical barrier to prevent sub's getting in. If they are already in, tenting is needed. Unless it is really localised, then they can squirt stuff into the...

Re: Home and garden projects

Yes. The drywood type swarm, and get in anywhere. They look like flying ants and shed their wings once they find a home.

I had mine tented before moving in. You have to remove all food, and be...

Re: Home and garden projects

As a Florida resident I have surprisingly few bug problems, but I feel the need to do an ant bait treatment on the whole yard (5000sf max). Have googled, and just wondered who has had success with...
