My fiancée's e-cigarette was allowed through without any hassle. She wasn't brave enough to use it inside though and went outside to the smoking shelter.

I don't know whether you've checked specifically about iPads, but the banned list I linked to says that's it's not an exhaustive one, so iPads could well still be prohibited.
