You will be disappointed if your accountant got it wrong. Mine did and the AT will want the full gains for the whole year despite when you arrived here.

AT will not give any advice and your choice...

Ah. Makes sense now. When you cease to be a resident your assets such as securities and shares are "deemed as Sold" the day before and bought at the same price the day after. This capital gains tax...

Yes. You have to get a "international tax residency" certificate from AT and send it to your precious IRS and they will close your books and you can wave them Goodbye.

If you entered on 1 Dec 2017 you would not be considered for tax for 2017 as you have to be present here for the 183 days required for tax residency.
