I thought it might be worth mentioning something new I learned about United this week. It turns out having a "Confirmed Upgrade" and seat doesn't mean you're flying up front. I had to go BOS to LHR...

They do, you have the option to keep them together if you want, but I think if you do that you don't get on the upgrade list.

In terms of issues with 2 PNRs, I've hit delays in this situation...
