I think user Waakas recently went E-3 to GC, so you could check his old posts for more info.

I was going to say the same.. I'm sure there have been some examples posted on here from people who have done it, and there is nothing that would conflict with the original E-3 application. :)

That does not mean that the visa is still valid as written--YOU are the one who changed it by filing I-129 with Emp B. Doing your change in-country always means that you'll have one incorrect...

You can only be in one status at a time, so if you are E-3, you can not also be E-3D.
E-3 can not have an EAD based on E-3D.
If you lose your E-3 job, you'd have to do a change of status to E-3D...

You can't 'AOS' (that usually refers to adjusting to Green Card) and I don't think you can even do a change of status, because of the 221g. Your friends' advice doesn't take the 221g into account.

Homer, I'm pretty sure you asked this before....

You can VISIT the US with your visitor's visa, to job hunt.
You may NOT apply for AOS until your wife is a US citizen, so you may NOT get a job...

You should consider having your wife petition for you at her earliest possibility. She can petition her spouse while she is a PR.

The '4-5 years' is for you to get an immigrant visa if your Permanent Resident wife petitions you.

If you can get to the US on another visa, you are certainly welcome to do so.

You may want to speak to your employer about this and explain that SSA must confirm your entrance with DHS (Homeland Security), and DHS is not always that sharp about updating these things. You can...
