I decided to search Australian companies who may offer the service and found a company who will reduce the excess to $300 for the cost of $5/day

That brings it down considerably

Thanks. I was hoping someone might have a link to a 3rd party provider for excess insurance. The hire company charge to reduce the excess down to $0 is $35/day. Which is a lot of money
