You can do that with generally no ill effect other than risking a ticking off at the UK border but I suspect of the two you’ll receive the UK passport first now the summer rush is over.

For a British passport you are supposed to enclose a copy of any foreign passport but since the baby won’t have either at the time of application I think it’s a moot point.
