Re: Brits in Ireland post Brexit

I’m not surprised the staff aren’t aware of the changes. Strictly speaking they are correct - Surinder Singh will end on 31 December 2020 as the transition period will have ended and since Surinder...

Re: Brits in Ireland post Brexit

The Immigration Rules have been updated to implement this new policy. The government can always change its mind, even if it was primary legislation, but, yes, it’s unlikely to be changed,...

Re: Brits in Ireland post Brexit

HMG has confirmed that you’ll have until 29 March 2022 to return to the UK with your spouse if you are a British citizen exercising your Treaty rights in another EU country, i.e. the Surinder Singh...

Re: Brits in Ireland post Brexit

As mentioned, it’s all in the immigration white paper.

Once upon a time that might have been true, but...

Re: Brits in Ireland post Brexit

Without wanting to get into a political argument you’ll find there’s a scant evidence of that outside increasingly unhinged Guardian op-eds. Freedom of movement may be ending but there’ll be a...

Re: Brits in Ireland post Brexit

That's not what the Good Friday Agreement guarantees. The Common Travel Area is what allows British citizens to live in Ireland and vice versa. Nothing about a 'No Deal' Brexit is going to change...

Re: Brits in Ireland post Brexit

It is lower in certain countries if you have familial ties, such as a spouse, or meet other pre-conditions, but I’m not aware of anywhere where it’s less than five under ‘normal’ circumstances. It’s...

Re: Brits in Ireland post Brexit

I suspect you’ll be disappointed but in your situation nothing is likely to change. You will just approach the EU desk together.

Re: Brits in Ireland post Brexit

When the UK leaves the EU then British citizens’ rights as EU citizens will cease. This includes freedom of movement. Non-EU spouses of EU citizens however enjoy the same rights as their EU citizen...

Re: Brits in Ireland post Brexit

Take advantage of the Surinder Singh route while you can. Apply for your wife’s EEA Family Permit from Ireland and then EEA residence card after you arrive in the UK. You’ll be able to replace this...

Re: Brits in Ireland post Brexit

As it currently stands, yes. However if the UK ends up in a ‘no deal’ scenario then the SS route could end as early as March 2019.

Re: Brits in Ireland post Brexit

Your husband can travel to the Republic of Ireland with you but if you want to stay then he should apply for the relevant Irish residence permit. As your spouse he can currently remain in the RoI...

Re: Brits in Ireland post Brexit

The sabre rattling in the press by the Taoiseach is strictly for domestic consumption. The RoI can't complain about the impact of Brexit on the Good Friday Agreement and Anglo-Irish relations if they...

Re: Brits in Ireland post Brexit

If you are both British citizens then you shouldn't have a problem. The Common Travel Area and other agreements between the UK and the RoI have been in effect since independence. All residents in the...

Re: Brits in Ireland post Brexit

After the end of the transition period although if there is a ‘no deal’ outcome, which is increasingly likely, then it’ll be 29 March 2019.

Re: Brits in Ireland post Brexit

As a British citizen your rights will continue as before. The only benefit loss I'm aware of at the moment is the ability to rely on EEA freedom of movement rules to bring in a non-EEA family member....

Re: Brits in Ireland post Brexit

British citizens living in the Republic of Ireland and Irish citizens living in the UK have had benefits and rights that long predate the EU/EEC, most of which are superior to those that come with...
