That is technically true for those wishing to naturalise as Spanish citizens but since your 'renunciation' of your previous citizenship invariably has no legal effect dual nationality is permitted...

Just to reiterate for anyone reading this thread in its entirety there is NO requirement to formally renounce your British citizenship with the Home Office in order to naturalise as a Spanish citizen...
