You'll need your full birth certificate. If you were born in England or Wales you can order it online from the General Register Office (http://www.gro.gov.uk/).

In that case your son is already a British citizen by descent and you need only apply for his passport.

Consular birth registration is optional but I would personally recommend it. More...
