Because the Philippines does not permit divorce so if your wife had been married previously legally any children would not be yours.

British by descent only becomes an issue if she has her children outside the UK. Any children born in the UK will be British.

From the experiences of BE members I think it's safe to bet on a 9-12 month processing times for a first time application from an applicant born in the Philippines.

I would still go for the consular birth certificate first. Otherwise if the passport is lost, stolen or allowed to lapse for too long in the future you might have to go through all this again.

Having a consular birth certificate will make life easier for any Briton born overseas but for someone born in the Philippines it's a no-brainer given the hassle involved if you ever need to produce...
