There are benefits too of course. Part of your social charges is a "training tax" and every employee is entitled to ongoing training, normally at no cost to themselves.

Not really I don't think, because AFAIK landlords aren't liable for taxe d'hab on rental properties that are unoccupied on 1st Jan, that's between the tenant and the tax office. But obviously he...

If you're there on 1st Jan of year N and you move out on 30 Dec (or before) of year N then you are liable for the tax for year N.

If you get the keys after 1st Jan 2018 your first taxe d'hab bill will arrive at the end of 2019, about this time of year in fact - the bills for this year have arrived and payment is due shortly.

Southbound's advice won't be far off the mark.

There's maybe a few details like I think a couple of percent of your social contributions count towards taxable income, and you may be able to claim...

Since French tax is calculated per household, I don't see how a calculator that doesn't consider marital status can give even a reasonable result.
