how about the ''friendly'' people you met who came and stayed a few times and of course you rolled out the red carpet, three course meals, trips and tours around the countryside, fine wine etc. then...

It sounds like you need to tell your family to visit you. It is a long time not to see one's mother and one can feel cut off and isolated which leads to negative feelings.
Everyone needs moral...
