from experience, i'd much rather live on 30k in london than 65k in either melbourne or sydney.

i beg to differ. in the uk i was on around 40k in london. here i'm doing literally the same job (just working a lot less) and on around 140k

absolutely. Its a horrible time to move here with the life savings. Having said that when we arrived we didnt really have a huge amount in the way of savings - enough to pay for our wedding and a TV,...

I find thay I have to hunt harder for bargains here as opposed to the UK. Petrol is the obvious shitter, as its very expensive in the UK. Red Wine too.

we just bought one outright, using out 20% deposit for a sydney house. a three bed terrace somewhere in Lancashire.
sydney property purchase is on hold and we are currently saving up again to buy...

thats a big positive in my book. For a country this large Australia does feel really isolated at times, both nationally and internationally.
