I'm very much aware that it's a good problem to have but the idea of having 62K in cash for 6 months is very frustrating, considering the interest rates, when I'd rather it was invested and working...

Thanks for the feedback. We can afford it ok so I guess that's the most straightforward. Then I believe it will be 2 x 2.5 year visas before my wife can get citizenship.

Thank you. Looks like we'll be ok with our retirements savings although bummer it now takes five years to gain permanence.

I'm a British citizen living in the US with American wife. Want to retire back in Scotland. Is there some new rule making this harder?
