It is what it is. No choice & for us , no public transport.

NZ minimum wage is $10 USD per hour. Husband earns $20USD ph.

NZ State pension approx $205 USD per week.

I had a little play.
From what I can see the cost of petrol where I am in NZ per US gallon works out to USD $5.18
