That map is nonsense, it says growth for havering is -5% my flat here is up over a third from when I bought it 5 years ago. Every around here has being going through the roof over the past year

The main reason is what happens when you retire/can no longer work, general living costs are high enough without having to pay rent on top.

Obviously repairs & whatnot can rear their ugly heads...

This is exactly why I have never wanted to rent & thankfully have never had to. I feel so sorry for people in your predicament, it must be really hard to save & get out of the renting...

Houses are more than 10x the price they were back then & that's why it's harder, granted it has never been easy but the gap in wages compared to house prices has increased. If it had kept in line...
