- Live and work in Europe where your girlfriend could join you as partner of EU citizen exercising rights

Agreed. My point was that she returned to the US to have treatment because she was unable to pay the upfront costs of her treatment in the UK and then wait for reimbursement.

It is a well know fact that the majority of health care costs are spent in the last 2 to 5 years of one's life. People in long term care (nursing homes/assisted living) can be in those facilities...

You used to be able to that, but the rules have changed quite recently (16th July this year) after the McCarthy judgement in the European Court, and anyone who holds both UK and another EEA...
