Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Thanks. I moved the points out because for some reason, they've been giving me 3x ultimate rewards points on grocery transactions since the beginning of the year. I didn't want them to realize their...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Amex is offering a $15 statement credit when you spend $60 at Amazon.
Also, I received an offer to upgrade my Delta Amex gold to the platinum card the other day. The fee is $195, but it offers a...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

You may struggle to get approved for credit at first. I would advise you get a secured card (capital one does a good one) and make payments on it just to build your credit history. That was the only...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

I'm travelling to the UK in April - will I be able to use my US credit cards there easily given that they are not chip and pin? I do have a Chase Sapphire card which is chip and signature. Will...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Shame, we really need to find a way of paying the mortgage via card as sometimes our paydays fall a couple of days after the mortgage due date.

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

How are you finding Evolve, tonrob? I might need to start using it soon, the company I work for is shifting our pay schedule to a 2-weekly one and it's completely incompatible with our monthly car...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

My stepdaughter flies on southwest to visit, so definitely worth it for us - 50k is at least 5 one way flights. Delta want 20-30k airmiles for each one way flight! I do have some Delta sky miles...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

If I could pay my mortgage on a credit card, I'd be flying everywhere first class every month! What companies allow you to do that? I think Chase used to, but I heard it was stopping.

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

I'm pretty creative when it comes to racking up airmiles (pay our gas, electric, car insurance and other utility bills, plus daycare with an air miles credit card) but even I don't think I could meet...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

How do those 5 applications impact your credit compared to just making one application? I know that you can shop around for car/mortgage finance to an extent and multiple applications count as one...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Nice! Still playing that La Quinta wheel game to win points but it seems like the winnings die off after the first couple of goes, I haven't accumulated much more than the 2k I got on my first...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Thanks! I will take a look at the chase ink. I spend *ahem* a fair amount of money on Amazon, so anywhere I can buy amazon gift cards and get multipliers of points for doing so would probably be a...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Thanks :) I use the Southwest miles to fly my stepdaughter back and forth from her mothers, so not so fussed about the companion pass, just racking up as many air miles as possible to cover her...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Very nice!

I've seen a few mentions of people buying giftcards in order to maximize points and airmiles. Is there anything clever I can do to rack up more Southwest Rapid Rewards or Delta...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

My only annoyance with Discover is that they hold payments from new customers in 'pending' status for a ridiculous amount of time whilst they do fraud checks, if they're for large amounts. My husband...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

My guess would be no, since in the offer I got my chase card on, there was a separate points reward for transferring 1k worth of balances (in addition to the points for spending a set amount in the...
