Port Pirie is a good 3 hours from Adelaide. I've driven through the area and wasn't impressed. From Adelaide, go east to the hills or south to the Fleurieu for better options than Port Pirie.

Plenty of options that could suit your needs in the Adelaide Hills and Fleurieu Peninsular, both an hour or two from Adelaide's services but far enough away to not see Adelaide, just countryside and...
