Aldi is opening 20 new stores in Italy. They are building their distribution centre in Trento at the moment.

Try Romanian/Polish shops. They have it there and it is fresh.

And if you are near Esselunga, I am sure I saw it there too.

Yes, I remember the ginger beer! And the porridge in a tin.

Lots of different cuts of meat and at good prices. I also saw for the first time American ready made pancakes. Not cheap though.

Re parsnips, I saw them in a Rome market at 16 euro a chilo, a few years back. I usually have guests from the UK and they always bring us parsnips. We even grew them in the garden....

Lidl sells the new spread with cholesterol reducing properties. I have not seen it anywhere else.

When making quiches, I normally get the pastry without hydrogenated fats in it.

I would never attempt to make my own filo pastry-even Mary Berry used ready made one on the Great British Bake off....

The best filo pastry you can buy is original Greek( forget the Italian filo in the frozen section, it is thick) from any Arab shops or Metro wholesaler.

Plain flour is either 00 for biscuits/cakes or grano duro for bread.

It would be interesting to know if they do the same in the UK. I doubt it, as I can not imagine a UK customer being told at the checkout: cash and debit cards only.
