Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

The supermarket sweep would have to be for a British supermarket though, ideally with first class airfares and an unlimited luggage allowance for the return trip:thumbup:.

I'm like a kid at...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

It's highly likely that rich, high-income, bolshy, professionals in high demand jobs will do well anywhere;). It's how everyone else is treated that matters, especially the more vulnerable.

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Yes, would have to agree, I worked at a NGO a couple of years ago, thankfully for a short contract, and was horrified at the bullying and back-stabbing. It seemed that you had to start behaving like...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Possibly they are also in positions where they have power and/or protection, and can make decisions that negatively affect others, especially if the others are more competent and qualified than they...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

There is absolutely no way that such a comment is acceptable. There's absolutely NO humour and no "Australianism" - it is sexist, racist and obscene:thumbdown::frown:.

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Unfortunately, families sleeping rough have been reported several times recently in Perth, here's another example...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

How about these facts, from "State of Affordable Housing in Western Australia", a report by Shelter WA, March 2011, page 24:...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

My MIL loved bananas. When we had the last cyclone that wiped out the banana crop (? Larry), I still bought her bananas so that she could have one each day and it didn't matter how expensive they...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

It's not been a problem yet, but I'm sure that in a month or two we will have a banana crisis. Last time that happened, the price was sky-high and we stopped buying them.

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

The red wax is used to show which ones are eco-friendly (?less pesticide used?), although I had assumed that they were organic, that is apparently not the case. Sometimes blue or green wax is used,...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Moving back to bananas, I always buy bananas grown in WA, as they've travelled far less and are a much smaller size than bananas from the eastern states. I've never seen these in Woolworths here,...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

I'm not against good white bread, and for some things it's essential - a bacon sarnie just wouldn't be right on brown bread, or a chip butty, come to that.

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

I don't eat much bread, but the 3 males in the house do. One loaf of Lawsons lasts one day at the weekend:blink:. The other brand we like is Wheatbelt Bakehouse, wholemeal or rye, 750g loaf about...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

I used to have a bread maker and used the Laucke mixes, but the baking tin lost its lining and I couldn't get a replacement. Had to chuck out the whole machine, as there were no spare parts...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

We're fussy about bread. I never buy sliced white bread and only ever buy white bread if I can get a loaf from a Nedlands bakery (and it's about $6). We buy wholemeal or rye, and there's only 2...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Why do you think that is? Have Book Depository cottoned on to how many Australian residents are buying from them? Surely we should be better off with the strength of the A$?

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

I don't know about works of fiction, as I never seem to have time to read them. If I'm on holiday I go to a paperback exchange for a book, or sometimes get the kids a book from Big W. I did use...
