Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

I pay my footy teams dues and collect the money. I think they all think I'm being nice...!! It works about to about $600/month which isn't too bad considering it only costs me my share and I...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

A fortnight?! Even being creative $21.5k seems like a helluva lot of money.
I could just about manage it in the 3 months being a little creative and utilizing normal expenditure but I can't even...

I have no idea, but have been looking for a while. They had a good deal so I took the plunge. They actually have a store very near my work.

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Just bought some steaks through Omaha steaks for 7x bonus. I was going to do it anyway - never realized how many retailers there are on there that I use frequently. Need to get into the habit of...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Thanks! I'm not miles rich at the moment so I'm still looking to build miles, though I will look at the cashback alternatives.

I think I'll focus my spending on the Ultimate Rewards card and give...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Tonrob - How do you prioritize your spending?
It's just dawned on me that I need to spend more time on this to make the most of it and I'm having a bit of a hard time figuring out which card I...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

I've also just taken a Marriott CC offer for 70,000 points, I actually mainly did this for the elite status (it takes me to Gold which I otherwise wouldn't have achieved)

•70,000 points after...

Re: Horrible United miles devaluation on partner airlines

It's my company's preference so most of my miles with them from flying are on company business. I more mean that although I earn miles with them other ways I'm looking to stop using them at all and...

Re: Horrible United miles devaluation on partner airlines

I've just started boycotting United wherever possible. I know I may regret this from a miles perspective as their fees are still low and there miles are fairly easy to accrue but I'm just done with...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

I just received (yesterday) the following offer for an IHG card. I don't know whether this is worth jumping on or not but 80,000 points appears to be a pretty decent bonus for a low spend requirement...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Nice! Do you ever pull your credit report? Does it make a big deal that you have so many hard inquiries?

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Thanks Geoff, think I might get bored of topping them up though!!

And this is why I asked you! :D

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

I could I guess, I hadn't really thought of getting another card. Perhaps a chase ultimate rewards card would be good for me. I will hit some bonuses on this purchase though (if it goes ahead). If I...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Tonrob - I have a fairly large cash purchase to make (a swimming pool) and want to maximize my points earnings and use a credit card (if possible).
Am I right in thinking that if I can get the...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

They're not my only options but they're the best two options for me out of IAH without having to make stops. My issue with BA is that my miles are next to worthless as it costs so much to use them. I...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

So, just as a follow up to this... United have changed their planes on the IAH-LHR route to old 767's. This sucks big time. I've been IAH-LHR LHR-IAH, IAH-LHR in the past two weeks and still in...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

So I'm not Tonrob and don't have his expertise but thought I'd share a recent miles paid for trip with Y'all to highlight that it's really pretty easy to get the stage where you can go for free.

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Yes. I collect both BA and United on flights and with credit cards. It just depends on where I'm going.

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

It's company money but its an internal cost rather than being on a project where the cost is passed on so I do need to watch the cost.

I've done a bit more checking and managed to find a United...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Tonrob - I need your opinion. I need to fly business class IAH - LHR.
My preference is to fly either BA or United (for cc and reward reasons), however I can get a much better fare if I fly AA...
