The 35k is not over the top at all. I could burn HSBC through 100K in costs before they even got of the ground in PA and that's on a slow day when I am not thinking too hard about it.

Default rates are not correlated to dishonesty, period.

Nor is it necessarily dishonest to hop on a plane and leave the debt behind.
You may well "feel" that it is, but nope it isn't.
