Re: 1.93's A$ to the Pound!!!

They always seem to want to press credit when I'm at the pay counter. One time when I corrected them and said "cheque" the guy said "good for you". They really do love their credit cards.

Re: 1.93's A$ to the Pound!!!

Same for us when we arrived. No few months to chill and settle in. We had a one week holiday then I was straight at work. Bloody crappy £.

Re: 1.93's A$ to the Pound!!!

I've read reports by Merrill Lynch and HSBC that say that the AU$ has hit its ceiling and will loose 20% by the end of the year. They also said that October is thought to be the month when it starts...

Re: 1.93's A$ to the Pound!!!

I read the other day that Bank of America and Merrill Lynch forecast the AU$ to fall by 10% by the end of the year.

Re: 1.93's A$ to the Pound!!!

Is that if the whole amount is $250,000 or $250,000 in profits?

Re: 1.93's A$ to the Pound!!!

So how do people who hold off their transfers until the exchange rate improves hope to negotiate this?

Re: 1.93's A$ to the Pound!!!

If I have read correctly though you have something like 6 months from emmigrating where it's non taxable? Definitely one to check with the accountant though.

Re: 1.93's A$ to the Pound!!!

Bit of a hot potato I know but we are also waiting for the excahnge rate to improve before we transfer our money over. Can't see us needing the bulk of it for a year. If you wait too long though...

Re: 1.93's A$ to the Pound!!!

Listening to Radio 4 the other day and one analyst said that a lot of the growth estimations are likely to be revised upwards fairly significantly into the second half of 2010. There was an overall...

Re: 1.93's A$ to the Pound!!!

Interesting now that one of the only currencies that the £ is rising against is the AU$. Must be bad.

Re: 1.93's A$ to the Pound!!!

I agree. 1.75 is still nothing to get excited about. I think people are just exited to realise that down is not the only direction. After a while people think that things will forever go in the same...

Re: 1.93's A$ to the Pound!!!

The euro mess is only part of the reason for the sell off anyway. The US dollar is strengthening slowly so the Aussie dollar is being ditched.

Re: 1.93's A$ to the Pound!!!

We moved 3 weeks ago and at all times transferred the bare minimum. Transferred £3000 last week. Could have got about $200 extra if we'd have done it now. Ah well.

Total idiots that thought it was...

Re: 1.93's A$ to the Pound!!!

Before this week St Georges bank estimated that 2:1 will return by the end of the year. The recent falls make this way more likely. During the 80's £ was at parity to the US dollar. It didn't last so...

Re: 1.93's A$ to the Pound!!!

Nice to see now that they are getting concerned about the inflationary effect of the low pound. A small interest rate rise may be on the cards towards the end of the year.

Re: 1.93's A$ to the Pound!!!

Very stupid of them. Apparantly they said that there was a "chance" of a double dip but that it was not very high. Why bother saying it then!

Re: 1.93's A$ to the Pound!!!

I'm not sure I agree with this. Today against the AU$ the pound slid a massive 1.12%. Yet against the Euro and US$ it only went down 0.18-0.35%. I would argue that it is the strength of the AU$ that...

Re: 1.93's A$ to the Pound!!!

Analyst said today that back in the 80's the pound had a lousy time against the dollar and was at parity at one point. The pound will definitely rebound. Could well be another year of pain before...

Re: 1.93's A$ to the Pound!!!

Ooh not gold. CNBC said that Gold is ready for a bit of a crash. Commodities generally not looking good at the mo. Long term though it may be worth a punt.

Re: 1.93's A$ to the Pound!!!

£ is up today across almost all currencies. 1.74 against the AU$. Almost no rhyme or reason sometimes.

They really need to scale back the QE now. I've been off sick for a couple of days and...
