The coastline in Liguria is nice with lots of towns and good train service and the Alps (I like to ski) are nearby but there are also small villages with villas etc all over Italy.

I haven't been to Cancun but most people I know who have are people I don't think like to get out of their bubble much. The hotel zone is not really like Mexico..its sort of a Disney version of...

I've never been and beach resort places aren't my thing at all.
