Re: Is the US still a dream worth pursuing?

I can only find my house on a night because we have a fire hydrant at the bottom of the drive, the blue dot in the road guides me home

Re: Is the US still a dream worth pursuing?

No guarantees of that anywhere in the world, the more you have the more some people want to take it off you

Re: Is the US still a dream worth pursuing?

We lived in Milton Keynes before moving to LA, life in the US is definately more expensive for us. Other than the pi$$ take on petrol I never found anything in England overly expensive.

Re: Is the US still a dream worth pursuing?

But does that make them Proud to be Ethiopian, or proud of an Ethopian's achievements?

I'm guessing I see a distinction between these, other people see it as one and the same.

 I...

Re: Is the US still a dream worth pursuing?

Not really, I feel lucky that I was born in a country that is well developed and not into a slum in Pakistan for instance.

It doesn't make me proud or pleased though.

Strangely, I seem to...

Re: Is the US still a dream worth pursuing?

Ok, so based on this you are proud to be American because of what America as a country has done.

Therefore, you are proud of the war in Vietnam, the Hiroshima bomb, Japanese POW camps...

Re: Is the US still a dream worth pursuing?

There is nothing I don't like about England (well I'm sure if I thought hard enough there would be something). I love England and would be more than happy to go back, I just don't get how I can be...

Re: Is the US still a dream worth pursuing?

Re: Is the US still a dream worth pursuing?

I'm proud of some elements in British history, like fighting off the Germans. It just doesn't make me proud to have been fortunate enough to be born in England.

I guess I don't understand what...

Re: Is the US still a dream worth pursuing?

Re: Is the US still a dream worth pursuing?

FFS, I obviously need to be clearer in my posts.

I AM NOT PROUD TO BE ENGLISH, I DON'T GET WHY ANYONE IS PROUD TO HAPPEN TO HAVE BEEN BORN IN A PARTICULAR COUNTRY.

Re: Is the US still a dream worth pursuing?

Erm, I will repeat as it obviously wasn't clear in my original post I don't get why people are so proud to be American or English or any other nationality

Therefore why are you asking me how I can...

Re: Is the US still a dream worth pursuing?

As my original post said, I don't get it for ANY country, US or UK.

I know the guidelines to become a UK or US Citizen dictate you have to say these things... But I don't understand why:confused:

Re: Is the US still a dream worth pursuing?

Yes they do but in my opinion its a load of bollox (I'm ready for the abuse), I don't get why people are so proud to be American or English or any other nationality.

I'm proud of some things in...

Get walkie talkies and give one to your kids instead, I've discovered they will become your slaves when they have one.

You might get tired of yelling at them though to 'press the frinkin button...

Re: Is the US still a dream worth pursuing?

It all depends on the kind of person you are and what line of work you are in.

My husband works in an industry with very few opportunities in the UK, redundancies are frequent and more people are...

Re: Is the US still a dream worth pursuing?

I personally really miss being able to take a day off for no good reason, I went from 30 days holiday in the UK plus Public Holidays, to 10 days in the States and 6 public.

I used to take a day...
