Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

Just got the "retta" for my daughter's nido and it's €100 a month less than last year! OK, that means we're poor, but still, yay!

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

However, she did mention that her sister-in-law studied at Bologna then had trouble finding a job in the UK because "they want to see Manchester, etc.). So I guess maybe some other unis are OK after...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

Well yes, as a comprehensive school and University of Leeds-educated individual I wasn't sure what to say to that! Mind you a British friend here went to Oxford and thinks it's funny to go on about...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

I met an Italian lady yesterday who has just moved back here having spent half her life in the UK. She has a one-year-old and kept stressing that they were only here for a few years, they'll be going...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

Surely they should make an exception for exhausted pregnant mothers of toddlers! :D

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

Well personally I'm thinking of enrolling myself in my daughter's nursery. They have a two-course lunch at 11 a.m. (I'm starving by 10.30) then they all have a nice lie down for a couple of hours....

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

Oh I see! What a palaver. I'll take that as a warning should I be mad enough to apply for a masters here but given that I'm hoping to leave the country soon (and will soon have two small children) I...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

Oh I see. So you do already speak German to degree level! In that case I guess I'm wondering why you're bothering getting the same degree twice! Why not a masters in something that interests you?

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

Well I guess it depends on Mark's level of German (and French?). I "knew" French and some Italian before I went to university but certainly not to degree level.

I don't know about your course...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

I think the point is that most Italian schools don't teach music, cooking, etc. so this is a plus. They will of course teach literacy and numeracy!

And yes, I think you'll have more luck in a few...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

How do Italian university fees compare to British ones?

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

Very true. That must be such a pain. What did the single teachers do? Call mamma and papà presumably.

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

I used to do some teaching work at universities when I lived in France. They pay you twice a year, the first lump sum is in March or April, the second in August!

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

I don't really want to get into the debate as I have no experience of the Italian school system (my daughter is not yet two) but I do disagree with this. This is what my old (comprehensive) school...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

This friend (like most Italians in my experience!) is prone to exaggeration but I think she was serious in this case. She's told me the story several times.

The same friend is a French teacher in...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

I was under the impression they already had training now? My sister-in-law studied to become a teacher, but perhaps it was all theory and no practice. Now why does that surprise me?

An Italian...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

Are the schools on strike next Thursday where you are? I don't think our nursery is because it's "convenzionato", but the public nurseries and schools and our playgroup will all be striking.

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

Well going on the experience of a friend of mine who is a French teacher here, the exam to become a language teacher consists of knowing the literature of the language really well. Try testing her on...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

Even the asilo nido seems to be open on Saturdays in the South. My in-laws were surprised that we weren't sending our one-year old to nursery on a Saturday!

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

We did painting at playgroup yesterday. The kids were supposed to create something springlike, and Emily had a lovely time using her paintbrush and hands, spreading all the colours around (and...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

Did the nasty mums who sent out the letter send their kids to Marco's party?
