What you have been told does not even make sense. You can't get a bridging visa until whatever visa you were on at the time of application expires.

You won't be on an active bridging visa because your 457 is still there. If you cancelled your 457 then you would also cancel the bridging visa A in the background. You would therefore at best hope...
