Drives me nuts that as a pedestrian when I am crossing a dual carriageway, a lot of drivers don't let you complete your crossing and try to run you over before you get across the second part, even...

Sorry no I meant I agreed that the Canadians vowels are elongated in comparison to the American. And definitely evidenced in the word oot vs out.
Wonder if it is possibly a bit of the Scottish...

Nope, went Scotland to Australia to Canada. Never lived in New Zealand but obviously a lot of them living in Australia.

I have most definitely noticed the difference in the vowels over here - one of the easiest ways to discriminate between an American accent and a Canadian one IMO. And I have heard people form SK...

I think the same still applies to parts of the UK. Certainly in my experience in parts of Scotland anyway(and I'm not talking majorly rural either - just 30 minutes out of a major city)
