Go to your bank and ask for a "dealing desk rate" - your bank will be used to moving £millions for businesses, and the dealing desk rate is what businesses get for large exchanges.

As you can go on-line to make a transfer, and you need to give them a destination account what you should do is, in this order:

(i) register with TransferWise, do that now

(ii) move to NZ

Not only will a bank charge a wire fee to send a wire, the receiving bank will also likely charge another fee (usually somewhere around half the sending fee).
